Freedom of Expression

Under campaigning for freedom of expression, EHRP, monitors trials related with violation of Article 29 of the constitution by state actors. This includes journalists, bloggers, activists and politicians. Under this category, we strive to document and highlight the legal preceding of cases and detention situation of those arrested for exercising this right.

Former Blue Party Public Relation and Activist Yonatan Tesfaye was arrested in December 2015 after accusing the government of using disproportionate force against peaceful proteststors in Amhara and Oromia Regions in Facebook posts. On May 25, 2017 court sentenced Yonatan Tesfaye to six and a half years in prison.
